10 Ironwomen x Fullsteam

This was a funded documentary which aimed to highlight less competitive participation in triathlon. This documentary follows the ’10IronWomen’  as they train ahead of the ‘Castle to Coast’ middle distance triathlon.

Following the group, the doc explores their motives and struggles as they push themselves deeper into a world that was not long ago seemed alien and  unapproachable.

DJ yoda x House Gospel Choir - Feel like home

Contacted with very little time to prep or even shoot, working with DJ Yoda, we used the location to create the aesthetic that best fit the amazing music created by this great ensemble.

Jarpy - My Home

One of my major goals in filmmaking is to use it as a tool to encourage thought and ultimately change. This was a big push in this direction, celebrating cultural diversity and highlighting the stories behind some of those joining us from other cultures .

This project came partially from wanting to learn more about the situation in Venezuela in 2019.  Combining two fairly different worlds, skateboarding and political/social issues. This was my first major step into documentary, something I have continued to focus on.

In the Round - My Octopus Mind

A passion project , soon to be developed in to a series and mini documentary. The idea was to create a music session that encouraged creativity and collaboration by taking bands away from the studio or gig setting, no electricity and minimal kit mean that the artist need to rethink how they play their music. The session is completely lit by fire and that also helped to create a really nice quality to the sound, like a crackling record.

Hope without limits - Sacele

Created for  Belief in Action, a UK charity involved in projects based around Europe. This organisation focuses on helping those with disabilities in the area surrounding Brasov in Romania.

It was  truly amazing to see all that this organisation does .One of the hardest tasks became involving all the different aspects, in a relatively short video. I believe the interviews at the start help to keep the focus on the most important aspect of the organisation, those directly effected by the charity.

Young Waters in Real World Studios

After Young Waters won the ‘New shoots’ award from Bath Folk Festival, they were invited to the world famous Real World Studios for a day of recording. I was asked if I would like to come along with them and document the day . I wanted it to seem as natural and real as possible, a look inside the recording process of the band. I not want to inject any real drama that wasn’t really there, more just to reflect the calming but emotive nature of the music whilst still giving a feel for the strong personalities in the band

My Octopus Mind - Elska (Music video)

Liam, from MOM had a very strong idea of what he wanted and we worked together to achieve what I think was a quite unique vision for the video. Featuring amazing acrobatics from ‘Pocket Fluff Productions’ we adapted their routine to fit the song.

Supporting the changes in energy in the song was a big motivation for the shots, this helped to present their strange and eerie relationship. Whilst we wanted to hint at certain themes, the aim was to leave allot of this open to interpretation.

Tigress - 'Headaches' (Music video)

Tigress approached us at Friction Collective with a strong idea of an aesthetic for their new music video, based around the incredible look and feel of the scifi TV show ‘Stranger Things’. All shot in one day with little time for location recce, we had allot of fun shooting this but pressure was always on to get to the next location whilst making the most of the time available.

The Attila Project

Part of an ongoing partnership with Graft for Growth and People Against Poverty, both charitable organisations with heavy involvements in Romania.

Filming was very run and gun, working with on very small rigs for maximum versatility and speed. My focus was really to capture the people behind each aspect of the trip. Projects like these  effect so many people in different ways and I wanted to capture the emotions, drive and humanity to communicate that to the viewer. This video has helped to increase bookings and the trips are generally fully booked at least year in advance.

A Matter of Perspective

This video really came as a result of wanting to rethink the idea of a video showreel, usually a compilation of clips set to music to show off recent projects and promote more work.

My idea was to create a narrative with a wider social focus questioning our need to share so much of ourselves online. The response to this was very positive and I think it achieved its goal of engaging our audience more than a standard showreel.

The Greasy slicks - Hawks (music Video)

Being such an energetic band, musically and otherwise, I wanted to create as much energy as possible. This was my first music video and I learnt allot from the process, immense fun and some challenging situations.

A simple idea, being hunted by hawks that transport them through various locations. The right locations was really important and keeping up intensity and showing off the contrasting scenery in the best way.

The Microfarm Project

This was the ambitious predecessor to the ‘The Attila project’, the video shows all of the elements of the micro-farm project coming together. One thing I aim for with any video showing poverty and misfortune is to focus on the positive side. Positivity breeds positivity and that reflects the ideology behind this project.

I also thought it was fairly important to give a bit of context to the country and why such poverty does exist in Romania. The final effect was of a promotional video with aspects of documentary storytelling, hopefully standing out a little more than the usual.

Transylvania - At first light

Very much a spur of the moment happening, having been up to the top of this mountain previously I knew what a stunning backdrop it can create. What was missing was a subject, I am not usually drawn to filming landscapes on their own. we were travelling with a group that included an up and coming dancer about to study at a dance school.

As the beauty was very much completely surrounding us I wanted to film it very simply and to capitalise on this. I decided later to inject a little more drama with some time remapping in the edit.
